How We Met

It was New Year's Eve, 2021. Maggi was headlining a comedy show at a friend's house. New to town, and wanting to impress, she wore a long sleeved, silver velvet dress and sat next to another old friend from college who accompanied her to the show. Tony sat on the other side, also dressed to impress, wearing a red camo jacket hanging out with one of his friends. Tony kept peering over to make eye contact with Maggi. Little did he know, that a few weeks later, Maggi would show up at his house with the host of the comedy show (because they had to talk business). In a last ditch effort to keep Maggi around that evening, Tony pulled out his flute (the musical instrument) and began playing in all his Anchorman glory. Eventually, they exchanged numbers to play music together and would up going on their real first date to Mozart's Coffee shop on Lake Austin (when their 5k plans got snowed out) in February 2021.

A 15 minute drive to the heart of hill country with only about 5 minutes of windy, twists and turns. This hotel has a pool, fitness center, restaurant and bar downstairs. Pack accordingly!

THIS IS SXSW WEEKEND. Things will book quickly. It is also Spring Break for the entire state. There are plenty of Air BnB's nearby that are quite affordable. If you want a little more privacy or just a peace and quiet getaway, we recommend looking into that. Wimberly is another very quaint getaway town equal distance from the venue, however, the entire town is local (no major grocery chains) and there is very limited parking anywhere in the city. We DO recommend that if you are feeling adventurous, to go check it out at some point during your stay. Other hotels that you can check out too include: Holiday Inn Express, Outpost Motel, or anything downtown Austin. Keep in mind, downtown Austin is about a 25-30 minute drive from the venue with streets that will not be lit and you will navigate windy back roads. Dripping Springs will have all the amenities that Austin will including an HEB, (major grocery chain) Starbucks, Walgreens, Dollar General, Whataburger, McDonalds etc.

Travel

If you want some real Texas two-stepping, this is a hidden gem on the East Side of Austin. There is very little parking so plan for Uber/Lyft.

The White Horse

If you want some authentic Texas BBQ, Terry Black's is THE place. Weekend lines are long...sometimes wrapped around the building, but they move quickly and may often serve margaritas or beers in line. Wear sunscreen, it's hot.Very little parking, so be prepared with Uber/Lyft.

Terry Black's Barbecue

This is a haunted hotel in downtown Austin. It's got a cool bar in the back with live music and a decent menu. It is on the pricier side, but worth a check out. This is also a good spot to start if you plan on visiting 6th Street and taking in all the live music (and comedy) you can handle. The streets get blocked off at 7p Thursday-Saturday so if you park, make sure it's off the main street. Definitely be on the lookout for parking meters and lots because they WILL fine you for no payment.

<a href="https://www.hayscountytx.gov/jacobs-well-natural-area" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">JACOB's WELL NATURE PRESERVE/WALK</a>Saturday, March 14th, 8AM If you love nature and want a little exercise this weekend, Maggi will be taking a walk through this beautiful nature reserve.Join her to see a famous Pinterest-worthy scene in Texas hill country. This preserve is only a 15-20 minute drive away and is a very easy walk with lots of parking, bathrooms, and an air conditioned building with the history/museum/gift shop of the preserve. (2 hours including drive time)

<a href="https://www.acoponbrewing.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ACOPON BREWERY LUNCH/TASTING</a>Saturday March, 14th 1pJoin Tony for a bite and a beer at brewpub within walking distance from the hotel. Try some local beers and mingle before the wedding. This is on "historic" Mercer Street with a few other shops and restaurants nearby.This venue is kid and pet friendly.(2 hours)

<a href="https://theshadyllama.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">REHEARSAL DINNER at SHADY LLAMA</a>Saturday, March 14th, 6:30pThe couple will be going over last minute details with the bridal party and then will open up the fun to anyone in town that wants to see llamas, and mingle with other guests. There will be a food truck on site, and of course, plenty of beer, cider and wine. This is kid friendly and pet friendly (with a leash, of course). The views are not to be beat!(2-3 hours or until whenever Maggi and Tony are tired.)
